1.Small-Group
Our core model is small-group learning—with 4, 6, or 8 students per group—where collaboration, discussion, and guided instruction build both confidence and true understanding. Priority is given to students who join or form consistent groups, while placement assessments help us match each learner to the environment best suited for their success.

Overview
At Mahomet Math, our small-group tutoring model is the foundation of our teaching approach. Groups of 4, 6, or 8 students create the perfect balance between individual attention and collaborative learning. Students benefit from guided instruction, peer discussion, and structured problem-solving that make mathematics clear, logical, and engaging.
Each session includes concept instruction, guided examples, group practice, and individualized feedback. Students learn not only how to solve problems but also how to explain their reasoning and connect concepts across topics.
Sessions meet twice per week and last 60 to 90 minutes, providing steady structure, consistent progress, and a motivating learning rhythm.
Benefits of Small-Group Learning
Small-group instruction helps students gain both skill and confidence. By working together, they hear different perspectives, discuss ideas, and build stronger comprehension.
This format allows students to:
• Learn collaboratively while still receiving focused guidance
• Strengthen reasoning and communication skills
• Build persistence and confidence through shared progress
• Stay motivated with group accountability and support
Parents often notice improved focus, engagement, and enthusiasm as students begin to see math as both achievable and enjoyable.
Group Formation
We encourage parents to form or join a small group of 4, 6, or 8 students before enrollment.
Forming groups ahead of time allows students to learn alongside familiar peers with similar grade levels, pacing, and academic goals. This structure creates comfort, consistency, and a sense of teamwork from the start.
Groups may be formed independently by parents, or Mahomet Math can assist in connecting families with compatible students. Priority enrollment is given to students who register as part of a group or express interest in participating within the small-group model.
Our goal is to make math instruction both social and focused—helping students progress together in a supportive and structured setting.
What a Typical Group Session Looks Like
Each small-group session follows a structured, predictable format designed to keep students engaged and progressing confidently. A typical session includes:
1- Warm-Up Review – Revisiting key ideas from previous lessons to reinforce retention.
2- Concept Instruction – Direct teaching of a new topic with clear examples.
3- Guided Practice – Instructor-led problem solving with student participation.
4- Collaborative Work – Students discuss and solve problems together, sharing reasoning and strategies.
Independent Practice & Feedback – Students apply what they’ve learned with immediate instructor feedback.
Reflection & Preview – A short recap and preview of upcoming topics to connect learning.
This approach helps students build confidence, develop critical thinking, and form positive study habits in a supportive environment.
